FAQ's

Your mould questions answered

Is mould always visible?
No. 80% of our callouts detect mould inside wall cavities, ceiling voids, and subfloor spaces where no visible mould exists. If you can see mould on a surface, the contamination inside the building fabric is almost certainly more extensive than what is visible
Is mould a healthy homes issue?
Yes. Mould is directly linked to moisture, ventilation, and building performance, all of which are addressed under the Healthy Homes Standards. However, meeting the standards on paper does not guarantee mould has been resolved. Independent specialist assessment is the only way to confirm a property is genuinely safe.
When is professional mould remediation required?
Any time mould is present beyond a small isolated surface patch, particularly where it is recurrent, hidden, or linked to a water event. Cleaning is not remediation. If mould keeps coming back, the contamination is inside the building fabric and requires specialist assessment and IICRC S520-compliant removal.
Can mould be safely cleaned with bleach?
No. Bleach and household cleaners applied to a mould surface trigger sporulation, releasing a concentrated burst of spores into the air that spreads contamination to surrounding areas. They also do not address the underlying moisture source or the contamination inside wall cavities. Cleaning makes most mould situations worse.
Should builders or cleaners remove mould?
No. Mould remediation requires specialist training, containment methodology, and certified equipment. Uncontained removal by untrained workers triggers sporulation and cross-contamination, distributing spores through ventilation systems into previously unaffected spaces. The intervention must be done right or it makes the problem significantly worse.
